The City of Pelham is supported by numerous departments. Each department is unique and important in its role to support the community. Departments include the following: Administration (clerical support, accounting/financial support), Court, Engineering (City Engineer), Building Inspections & GIS, Revenue, Human Resources, Facilities Maintenance & Landsacpe, Library, Parks & Recreation, Public Works (laborers for maintenance and repair of streets and other community areas), and Garage (mechanics to support operation and maintenance of all city vehicles), Police, and Fire. PELHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT/DISPATCHER ~ The City of Pelham will be accepting applications for employment and entrance testing for the position of Dispatcher in the Pelham Police Department.

This sheet has been prepared to assist you in the completion of the application and submitting the completed application for the test.  It is preferred that you complete the application by using the link below for a PDF fillable form; or you may print the form;  handwritten is acceptable, but MUST be legible, using black ink.  (Applications received in pencil will be disqualified.)  Blank applications may also be picked up at City Hall, Main Building, (Room 109) Human Resources, 3162 Pelham Parkway, Pelham, AL  35124 beginning at 8:00AM, August 17, 2015 and August 31, 2015 at 5:00PM.  City Hall is open Monday through Friday 8:00AM – 5:00PM.

You must fully complete all items on the application.  If any question or section is not applicable to you then use the notation ‘N/A’ in the appropriate space.  A false answer to a question in the application may be grounds for not employing you; or grounds for dismissal after hiring.  All statements are subject to investigation.

You will be required to show photo ID at the time you submit your completed application.  You will then be given test instructions, location and any other materials necessary for the test.

Test date is Tuesday, September 22, 2015.    You will be notified in a separate letter of the specific time of your test.  Testing location is the Pelham Police and Municipal Court building located behind Pelham City Hall.  A map will be included in your instruction letter.  The computerized  test is approximately 2.5 hours.

ADMINISTRATIVE ACCOUNTING SUPPORT ~ The City of Pelham is currently accepting applications for the full time position of Administrative Accounting Support for the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena.   This position is responsible for greeting members and public and telephone in a pleasant, courteous manner.   Takes reservations for birthday parties and other group activities at the Complex.    Operating point of sale system; petty cash; deposits; closing shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities, include, but are not limited to:

Responsible for opening safe; counting petty cash; money bags from point of sale registers; prepare deposits & reconcile.  Operate point of sale system.

Responsible for closing shift and resolving any problems;

Schedule all birthday parties and other activities which will include ordering food, soft drinks, etc.  Follow-up confirmations; assist in set up when required.

Assist or monitor large events in Main Arena or Banquet Hall, when required.

Previous sales knowledge, customer service skills, general bookkeeping /accounting skills.  Must maintain valid driver license.

FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER ~ The City of Pelham is currently accepting applications for the full time position of Food & Beverage Manager for the Ballantrae Golf Club.  This job involves managing the Fireside Grill which includes but not limited to the following:

  • Managing the operations and part-time employees; maintaining optimal functionality of grill area; maintaining assignments and work schedules for part-time employees and beverage carts (inventory & staff))
  • May be responsible for opening and closing and nightly clean-up;
  • Responsible for support of banquet set up and breakdown for functions and events in the Fireside Grill area;
  • Responsible for inventory, vendor interface for products, delivery, etc.
  • Responsible for receipts, cash drawer, and daily balance of accounts; this includes responsibility for accurate and timely tip distribution

High school diploma or GED required.  Three to five years supervisory experience preferred with organization skills, assigning and directing work, performance reviews and addressing complaints and resolving problems.  Valid driver’s license required.

PRO SHOP MANAGER ~ The City of Pelham is currently accepting applications for the full time position of Pro Shop Manager at the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena.   This position is responsible for ordering and maintaining the inventory of the pro shop for ice skating and hockey equipment and products.  The manager is also responsible for coordinating private lessons, skate school lessons which includes collection of fees, payments, etc.

Other duties include but are not limited to: assist in organization of annual ice show; developing a working relationship with vendors; coordinating with skate school director and hockey director for classes, camps and other events; developing or creating improvements for pro shop inventory or displays; assigning and managing part-time employee schedules for skate school and hockey. It is desired that the manager possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; a minimum of two years’ experience in sales and customer service skills.  Candidate must be able to develop a working relationship with children of all ages.
